Start with salary before tax
Enter the cash salary you expect to earn over the selected financial year. If an offer includes employer super, use the package calculator first to separate the cash component. The engine applies the supported standard deduction for the selected year when deriving taxable income. Do not subtract it from your salary input.
Use pay-period results as averages
The calculator estimates the annual amount left after the included liabilities, then divides it into regular budgeting periods. A monthly average is annual net income divided by 12; a fortnightly average uses 26; a weekly average uses 52.
An actual pay run can differ because payroll uses withholding tables, declarations, payment timing and rounding. Use the ATO tax withheld calculator when you need to check a payslip.
Budget for what the result leaves out
Your bank deposit may also reflect deductions taken after tax, such as union fees or repayments arranged through payroll. These are outside this estimate. Insurance premiums, living expenses and employer super are not spendable net salary.
Common questions
Will this tell me my tax refund?
No. A refund or tax bill also depends on the tax already withheld, other income, deductions and credits. This tool estimates the included annual liabilities without reconciling your tax account.
