Check your fit

Who can use this Australian tax calculator?

The first release supports a defined Australian employee profile. Match these assumptions before using the result for your own budget.

The supported personal profile

The calculator supports the Australian financial years available in its selector, subject to the displayed validity status. All these assumptions must fit for a personal estimate.

  • Australian resident for tax purposes for the full financial year.
  • Aged 18–66, single throughout the year, with no spouse or dependants.
  • Ordinary cash employment income only, with no deductions beyond the automatically modeled standard deduction and no special tax offsets.
  • No Medicare exemption and either full-year appropriate hospital cover or no appropriate cover all year.
  • No reportable fringe benefits, reportable super contributions, net investment losses or exempt foreign employment income.

What the result includes

The breakdown includes the selected year’s supported standard deduction, resident income tax, the low income tax offset, standard single-person Medicare levy rules and Medicare levy surcharge for the selected full-year cover setting. Compulsory HELP repayments are optional.

Package mode is a separate illustration using the displayed contribution assumption on all cash salary. It does not calculate the statutory super guarantee contribution cap.

When to use a different calculation

The release does not cover businesses, capital gains, rental or investment income, foreign income, salary sacrifice, share schemes, pensions, termination payments, working holiday makers, part-year residency or family tax settings.

Do not compensate for a missing rule by changing your salary input. Use an appropriate ATO calculator or obtain advice that considers your circumstances. Payroll withholding and tax-return refunds also require information this tool does not collect.
